Why

Here we are!!! Out of the airport in the middle of the night ! This is the first time we’ve been back to our new house. Bought it last summer and we’ve brought our friends with us to show off our ‘holiday home in the sun’. So exciting – hope they’re impressed ! So where’s that taxi driver got to? He promised - absolutely – that he would be here to pick us up at 4am. We’ve been waiting an hour. Given up and got a taxi…..actually 2 taxis because all the minibuses have gone. How much !!!!! £110

Ahh! Here we are. ..No. Down here… No… Funny it seemed so easy to find before… but then it was daylight and the roads have moved and new houses have been built…. Here it is. I knew we’d find it eventually. ‘Now who’s got the keys?’ ‘No, I haven’t’ ‘Who had them last?’ Thirty minutes later and one suitcase unpacked in the pitch darkness we find the keys.

It feels really cold and damp. I suppose it has been seven months and no-one has been in. Funny, the lights don’t work. I wonder if these bits of paper stuck in the door are bills? Don’t speak Turkish – they could be anything. Suppose we should have got someone to pay them. But who?

‘No, you can’t have something to eat. We haven’t got anything until the shops open’ (always supposing I can find that little shop). ‘No, we haven’t got any cola. Can’t you drink water?’ ‘No, I don’t know if it’s safe to drink the tap water!’
‘Let’s all go to bed’ ‘Yes, I know there are no sheets on the bed – it’s very hot – can’t you just lie on the mattress?’ ‘ Yes, I know dead flies aren’t very nice – just shut your eyes !’

Somehow, things aren’t like we expected. Should we have stuck with a package holiday where everything is laid on – well, sometimes! Still we have our own garden and pool. That will impress our friends. It will all look better in the daylight.

……No, it doesn’t. The plants are dead …. And so is that cat floating in the pool !!!

‘I knew we should have taken out that Property Management Package’ ‘Yes, I know I said we didn’t need it’ ‘SO, I WAS WRONG!!!!’

Here we are ! Straight out of the airport in the middle of the night to be met by our driver and very comfortable people carrier. How nice to arrive at our home to a warm welcome, lights on, everything sparkling clean, the beds made, the kettle on. How wonderful to wake to a blue sky and then to go out onto our bedroom balcony and look down on a pretty garden and an inviting swimming pool. Thank you, AZUR Property Management !!!
